CHARACTER'S PERSONAL STYLE: There is no word better to describe Professor Phiera's style of dress other than eccentric. He tends to favour harsh clashes rather than matching anything together; for example wearing all black underneath his robe and adorning a flamboyant, cerise silk robe with hand painted begonias splashed all over it. It's unlikely that you'll see him without his straw fedora hat, but he never actually wears it on his head. He's either spinning it incessantly in his hands or has it over his face while snoozing. Faine is very pale but has jet black hair. If it wasn't for his elaborate dress code - he'd probably be mistaken for a vampire, or something.

CHARACTER PERSONALITY: The most comforting about Faine is how laid-back he is. Life's turbulences just don't seem to bother him. Any expression of anger or aggression is so uncommon, it's likely that it's only happened a few times in his entire life - and likely when he was a teenager anyway - so it's unlikely that anyone is particularly afraid of him. The only reason why one would be afraid of him is his unhealthy obsessions with particular plant species, or the fact that he really doesn't take anything too seriously. Although he (somehow) keeps up with his duties as a professor (sometimes begrudgingly), he still finds the time to take an afternoon nap or get extremely drunk at the weekends away from the students. That's not to say he isn't a good teacher, but perhaps he just expects the same enthusiasm for his subject that he had as a student. Those who do not enjoy his subject do not have to enjoy it, but he has a habit of pretending they are part of the shrubery.

It's easy to forget that Faine Phiera is an intelligent man. He does not speak like a very intelligent person, but can surprise you when you least expect words of wisdom. Eccentric yet warm, Faine's idea of a good time is talking to his precious plants as though they were lovers. Speaking of which, he's actually had a fair few. He can be very casually charming, although the extent of his intimiate relationships rarely go further than a few instances. It does not matter to him, as you know; not a lot really gets to him.

One thing Faine absolutely hates is unnecessary hatred and violence, and while he is a fair dueller he certainly doesn't like using that sort of magic. He isn't entirely a pacisfist: being against pureblood fanatic ideals for example, but using his wand offensively to him is just tiresome. He'd much rather settle matters using a game of wizard's chess; but not many dark wizards would use this method would they? Still, times are fairly peaceful, and he relishes in that. Probably why he's so relaxed.

CHARACTER HISTORY INTRO: Faine Phiera was known for being a bit of a troublemaker when he was at Hogwarts. Not the kind who pulled pranks and talked back to the Professor: rather the kind who sheltered a secret carnivorous plant garden in a paddock of the forbidden forest and set all the cellos in the music room to play loudly and simultaneously as he stole from the potions supply cupboards. He wasn't a trickster or ne'er-do-well or anything of the sort: he just didn't like obstacles that got in the way of his private studies.

He came from a good family: his Mother was a muggleborn witch, and his father a half-blood wizard. It was likely his parents fault that he didn't have much regard for the rules when it came to his 'projects'. His father, who was a broom maker, was forever attending hearings at the Ministry of Magic regarding his coppicing of muggle-protected trees. His father perfected the art of feigning innocence; and so did Faine. He had charm and wit enough to win others' over where it was needed. Conversely, his mother and sister were scrupulous and tamed: there were both a force to be reckoned with when it came to scolding.

Faine's interest in magical plants came from spending so much time in the great outdoors with his father. But instead of feeling the need to make things that whipped through the air the fastest, Faine was interested in which plants could digest you the quickest. A rather odd ambition, but he always felt at home around the smell of rich earth and natural fertilisers that made others retch.

When he left Hogwarts, Faine had very little interest in becoming a teacher. As much as he enjoyed the school, he never enjoyed the idea of responsibility. That's partly why he never had any pets: he'd probably forget to feed the poor things. The only thing he was ever was good with was feeding plants, really.

Before becoming a professor, Faine worked for St Mungo's on the plant poisoning ward; but found the work extremely tiresome. So when Hogwarts school promised him six greenhouse's worth of magical plants, he jumped at the chance. Hogwarts has now been his home again for the past seven years, and he hasn't plans to change that anytime soon.
